One Family. Five European Homes. Five Months

Posted by on December 1, 2011

I just started my second cup of dark roasted coffee when Stan, my normally sane and sober hubby turned to me and said:

“I have an idea I have been thinking about.”

“Yes?” I say, adding  Equal to my coffee.

“Well, I’m thinking we take a trip.  An extended trip.”

My eyes squint, my head cocks, I wait.

Then he says these words: “I’m thinking we live in Europe for 6 months.”

Little did I realize the impact of those 8 little words.  Starting that day, a once in a lifetime adventure unfolded that changed me, my family and my view of the world.

Living with other families, citizens of their own countries, and getting to know them on a day to day basis forever changed me.  While it sounds like an over ambitious goal, even to me, I completed our adventure with passion for World Peace.

Years after our first trip and eleven Home Exchanges later, I see so clearly that peace between countries can be fleshed out if people meet with and get to know each other one family at a time.  Collecting my notes, photos and priceless memories of the real people we got to know along the way led me to write a book about my family’s experiences.

Like Eat, Pray, Love for Families, my intention is to inspire you with this blog and the book that is in process.  If this conservative and sensible mom can put her life on hold and create a life changing adventure with her family, you can do it too!
